Baroque of Sicily

  • Day 1 – Arrival in Catania
    Private transfer from the airport to the hotel. Dinner and an unstructured free evening. Overnight stay in a standard room.
  • Day 2 – Siracusa & Ortigia (B)
    Breakfast. Morning visit to the temple of Athena and the cathedral of Syracuse, followed by a tour of the archaeological park, Latomia Paradise and the Ear of Dionysius. The morning tour will end with a visit to the Greek theater. Lunch will not be provided.
    Unstructured free time in Ortigia where you can stroll among fancy boutiques, cafes,
    restaurants and at te seafront. Overnight stay in Noto.
  • Day 3 – Noto & Plaenta winey (B-T)
    Breakfast. In the morning we will visit Noto with a guided tour of the Baroque city. Noto is nestled at the foot of the Ibleani Mountains. The city is known for its masterpieces of late Sicilian Baroque architecture, including its famous cathedral. We will meet Corrado Assenza, the best pastry chef in Sicily, that he will delight us with his pastry (ice cream, jam and cream. Lunch will be not provided. Late in the afternoon we will transfer to “Buonivini” estate of the Planeta winery, one of Sicily’s leading wine producers. After check-in we will do a tasting of their wine and oil production with a final aperitif to cap it off. Overnight stay in Ragusa.
  • Day 4 – Ragusa “Wilderness and Baroque tour” (B-L)
    Breakfast. The day will be spent enjoying the “Wilderness and Baroque Tour” in a Land Rover Defender 110. During the tour the group will visit the wonderful countryside of Ragusa, Ragusa Ibla, Alta Valle dell’Irminio, Scicli and then stop in Modica for the tasting tipical chocolate. Lunch will be included. The tour will end in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight stay.
  • Day 5– Caltagirone & Piazza Armerina (B)
    BreakfastThe next stop is Caltagirone, known for its ceramics that are a symbol of Sicilian culture. The ceramics date back to the Middle Ages when they were used as tableware, and were later used to decorate royal and noble buildings. Here you will have free time to go shopping, choosing from numerous ceramic workshops. Lunch will be not provided. In the afternoon we will transfer to Piazza Armerina where we will visit the UNESCO heritage mosaics of the Villa Romana del Casale. Overnight stay in Agrigento.
  • Day 6– Naro & Valley of the Temples (B-L)
    Breakfast. Transfer to Naro, beloved by Frederick II who dubbed it “brilliantly radiant.” In 1200 Naro was gathered behind a fortified wall with seven gates. Today only one of these gates remains, the
    Porta d’Oro (Golden Door), a small medieval jewel rolled in Baroque architecture. Castles, churches and monasteries dot the town everywhere in a tangle of stories, cultures and religions of which the Mother Church, once a mosque, is the primary symbol. The tour guide will accompany us on a tour of the original baroque architecture and the most important sites of the town. The tour will end in Piazza Garibaldi and we will go to a typical trattoria. Late in the afternoon transfer to the Valley of the Temples where the group will be guided by Salvatore (a professional tour guide) through the Valley of the Temples. Overnight stay in Taormina.
  • Day 7 – Taormina (B)
    Breakfast. In the morning we will head to
    Taormina, one of the most famous towns in Sicily and which dates back to the 4th and 3rd centuries BC and is perched on a rocky promontory overlooking the Ionian Sea. It is a fascinating medieval city with typical cobble stone streets that lead on to large squares as well as the extraordinary classical Greek-Roman theater and the historic town center. There you will have the whole day free where you can stroll among the chic boutiques, cafes and restaurants. Overnight stay.
  • Day 8– Mount Etna (B-L)
    Breakfast. In the morning we will meet a nature guide who will lead us in our exploration of Etna, the largest active volcano in Europe. Once there, you will be able to admire the unique and spectacular combination of nature and the uncontrollable essence of fire. Lunch will be served in a local winery with wines tasting. Dinner and overnight stay in Catania.
  • Day 9 – Catania (B)
    Breakfast. With your private tourist guide you will visit the baroque city of Catania, located between the Ionian Sea and the volcano of Etna. It is one of the largest baroque cities on the Mediterranean and radiates a strange romantic beauty with its wide boulevards, large squares and great cathedrals. The first stop will be at the “Pescheria,” the daily fish and vegetable market. After lunch we will visit the Costa dei Ciclopi in Acitrezza and finally Acireale, famous for its wonderful Baroque architecture. Overnight stay.
  • Day 10– Goodbye Sicily (B)
    Breakfast.Transfer to the airport.

  • Day 1 – Arrival in Catania

  • Day 2– Palermo walking tour (B)
    Breakfast. Guided tour to the center of Palermo, starting from the Il Capo food market, famous for its meat, fish, vegetables, fruits and spice stands. The tour continues with a visit to the Martorana and Santa Caterina churches, with a stop at the famous pastry shop run by nuns, Pretoria Square and the Cathedral. Lunch will not be provided. In the afternoon we will reach Monreale to visit the cathedral with its captivating Byzantine mosaics. Overnight stay.
  • Day 3– Segesta & Erice (B-T)
    Breakfast. In the morning we will head towards Erice. On the way we will stop to visit the Temple of Segesta. Erice is a wonderful and mysterious medieval city perched on a hill at 2000 feet above sea level with a breathtaking view of the western Mediterranean Sea. The group will stop by Maria Grammatico, a world-famous pastry shop, where you can taste and purchase her almond desserts, “Le Genovesi” pastries as well as her almond nougat all while toasting over a glass of Marsala wine. Overnight stay in Marsala.
  • Day 4– Salt pans & Planeta winery (B-T)
    Breakfast. The tour will head towards the salt pans of Marsala with a visit to the Mulino D’Infersa and excursion of the pond my boat. Lunch is not provided. In the afternoon we will transfer to “Ulmo” estate of the Planeta winery, one of Sicily’s leading wine producers. After check-in we will do a tasting of their wine and oil production with a final aperitif to cap it off. Overnight stay in Agrigento.

    Breakfast. Transfer to the Valley of the Temples where the group will be guided by Salvatore (a professional tour guide) through the Valley of the Temples and the Kolymbetra Garden. The group will enjoy a packed lunch in the picnic area.     Breakfast. In the morning we will head to the tourist port of Marina di Ragusa, where we will take a tour of a part of the Val di Noto coast by sailboat or catamaran and a small excursion to the seaside village of Marzamemi. Lunch will be prepared by the chef of the “Don Eusebio” Restaurant. Dinner and overnight stay.
  • Day 8 – Noto & Marilina winery (B-T-D)
    Breakfast. In the morning we will head to
    Noto with a guided tour of the Baroque city. Noto is nestled at the foot of the Ibleani Mountains. The city is known for its masterpieces of late Sicilian Baroque architecture, including its famous cathedral.   • Day 5– Naro & Favara (B-T)
    Breakfast. In the morning we will visit Naro’s churches and monuments with a tour guide. The route starts on Via Dante (Via Dei Monasteri). From there we will admire the baroque church of Santissimo Salvatore built in 1398, the church of Santa Chiara of Ghotic-Noema style, followed by the palace of Count Gaetani (undersecretary of Benito Mussolini), the Catholic University, the Baroque and Rococo style main Cathedral, Palazzo Nunzio Destro, and the Baroque style Church of San Nicolò di Bari. Afterward, we will take a narrow road which will take us to the entrance of the medieval village of Naro, the route is characterized by very narrow streets between the houses that served as the walls of the village. At this point we will arrive at the Chiaramontano Castle located uphill. For lunch we will visit the house of Signora Antonia who will be very pleased to see us and where we will eat her own hand-made Sicilian food. In the afternoon the tour continues with a visit to the Baroque church of San Francesco as well as the Palazzo Comunale (town hall), a former church convent, and finally the Feliciana library. We will then transfer to Favara and meet Annalisa to visit the Patti pastry shop for the Cannolo experience. Ovenight stay.
  • Day 6– The authentic Sicily (B-L-T)
    Breakfast. We will head in the direction of Sant’Angelo Muxaro, a small town in the hinterland. As soon as we arrive we will begin a wandering taste tour with a first stop at the local dairy for a cheese tasting, a second stop at the bakery where we will try “
    U Pani Cunzatu” and almond cookies with honey, and a third stop at the local honey producer whose bees create it from native flowers of the Agrigento hinterland. Finally, we will make a visit to the museum and archaeological area where we will see the tomb of the prince. Lunch is included. Return at the hotel.

Breakfast.Transfer to Vittoria to the COS cellar for wine tasting and lunch on site. In the afternoon we will go to the Val Paradiso oil mill where we will meet Annalisa who will explain all the oil production processes, from harvesting to bottling. Overnight stay.

  • Day 6 – Naro and cooking class in sicilian country house (B-L-D)

    Breakfast. Transfer to the Valley of the Temples where the group will be guided by Salvatore (a professional tour guide) through the Valley of the Temples and the Kolymbetra Garden. The group will enjoy a packed lunch in the picnic area. In the afternoon the tour will head to Marsala. After checking-in, the tour will continue at the Fina Winery where Federica will explain the wine production process and the history of her family. Aperitif at sunset and dinner with a tasting of wines will be provided. Overnight stay.
